Valencia 26-10-17. On the same day as the National Day of ABI, IMED Hospitals and Neural opened theirnew Neurological Rehabilitation Unit. The unit has 10 beds for inpatients and a specific area foroutpatients and is formed by a transdisciplinary team, of more than 20 people, where you can findrehabilitation doctors, physiotherapists, speech therapist, occupational therapists, neuropsychologists,psychologists and social workers.
The patient is evaluated by all of the specialists that, together, make a personalized planning andaccording to each patient’s needs, with direct involvement of the family to improve its personal autonomyand reintegrate him again in his daily life.
National Day of Acquired Brain Injury
From more than 10 years, as the Brain Damage Spanish Federation suggested, in our country each 26 ofOctober takes place the Acquired Brain Injury National Day memorial. This date turned to be a claim spaceof the needs of brain damage people and their families. ABI is a big scale disability, but there is a wide lack of knowledge about it and poor social awareness yet. Nowadays more than 420.000 people in Spainlive with ABI. 78% of the cases began by a stroke and 22% left were caused by head trauma and othercauses. We want to point that every year there are 104.071 new cases [2].
As it is claimed from the FEDACE, the attention resources for these patients are still limited nowadaysbecause they can go to less than a hundred specialized centers in all national area. The federation claimsan attention model in charge of multidisciplinary teams and the creation of personalized programs,because ABI symptoms are very specific in each patient. IMED Hospitals wants like this to “give an answerto a need and offer a neurological rehabilitation service of first level that helps our patients to improvetheir quality of life, and we think that Neural is a reference in Spain for that.”
