In our PNICU is promotted mother breastfeeding, parent’s active participation in their newborn care and it is explained the kangaroo care method. This method is based in direct skin contact on mother’s chest, satisfiying physical and emotional needs of both of them, stimulating the biological affective link and favouring mother breastfeeding.
The PNICU is open doors, where parents can have access to their child 24h a day 7 days a week so they can spend all the time they need with their admitted son.
Since the beginning of the hospital activity there were nearly a thousand births, with an exponential birth increase month by month. In IMED Valencia, 4% of births were premature, 10 of them were under 32 weeks, which is considered premature. These patients can have more complications and require some special care and follow-up.
Regarding Neonatal ICU patients, there were 213 admitted patients registered and assisted successfully since the hospital activity begun, 70% of those were newborns, and 15% of the total admitted were premature.
For the optimal follow-up after the patient is discharged, the Pediatrics service has a very specialised team, that can offer full attention and multidisciplinary follow-up with the best professionality, with pediatric subspecialties as Neuropediatrics, Allergology and Pneumology, general and neonatal Pediatrics, Gastroenetrology, Endocrinology, Nephrology and pediatrcics Cardiology.
